SECTION 1. Section 4 of Chapter 274 of the Massachusetts General Laws shall be amended by striking out this section in its entirety and inserting the following:-
Whoever, after the commission of a felony, harbors, conceals, maintains or assists the principal felon or accessory before the fact, or gives such offender any other aid, knowing that he has committed a felony or has been accessory thereto before the fact, with intent that he shall avoid or escape detention, arrest, trial or punishment, shall be an accessory after the fact. An accessory after the fact shall be imprisoned not more than one-half the maximum term of imprisonment or fined not more than one-half the maximum fine prescribed for the punishment of the principal, or both; if the principal is punishable by life imprisonment, the accessory shall be imprisoned not more than 15 years.
