SECTION 1. The Counties of Suffolk and Middlesex Houses of Correction shall implement a model program evaluating the use of extended release injectable naltrexone with offenders leaving correctional facilities and transitioning to community based treatment programs. Opioid dependent offenders will voluntarily receive treatment with injectable naltrexone and psychosocial support prior to release from identified correctional facility(ies) and for a period of time after release from such facilities. A continuum of services will be coordinated between the Correctional Medical Provider, the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, and MassHealth to ensure offenders receive the necessary services to support successful reentry into society. An evaluation will be conducted to determine the impact of this program on criminal recidivism and treatment outcomes.
