An Act relative to juvenile sentencing.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 72B of chapter 119 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 4 and 5, the words “such punishment as provided by law for the offense” and inserting place thereof the following:-  a term of life imprisonment without parole, or a term of imprisonment, the minimum of which shall be at least 25 years to life. Should the person found guilty become eligible for parole, said person shall be subject to the provisions of law governing the granting of parole permits by the parole board.

SECTION 2. Section 1 of chapter 265 of the General Laws as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition is hereby amended by striking the word “Murder” the first time it appears and inserting in place thereof, the following: Except as provided under section 72B of chapter 119, murder”.

SECTION 3. Section 2 of said chapter 265 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in line 6, the word “Any” and inserting in place thereof the following:- Except as provided under section 72B of chapter 119, any”.
