An Act providing greater fairness with respect to veterans under civil service rules.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Chapter 31, §59 of the MGL’s, as appearing in the 2010 official edition, is hereby amended by adding after line 54, the following:

Provided, however, that a member who is designated as a veteran with more than 25 years of service on a regular police or fire force and has passed an examination for promotional appointment shall be given greater preference over a member who falls under one of these designations.  And provided, further, that all points, preferences, or advantages under the civil service rules given to a member falling under one of these designations shall be combined for a member falling under both designations.
