By Mr. Fernandes of Milford and Senator Richard T. Moore, a joint petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 3048) of John V. Fernandes, Richard T. Moore and Bradley H. Jones, Jr. that the Registrar of Motor Vehicles be authorized  issue a distinctive registration plate indicating support for the Boy Scouts of America on the occasion of their centennial anniversary.  Transportation.

An Act relative to distinctive registration plates.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Chapter 90 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 2G the following section:-

Section 2H. (a) The registrar is hereby authorized and directed to design and issue, upon application, a passenger motor vehicles a distinctive registration plate which display on their face a design indicating support for the Boy Scouts of America and the words “Boy Scouts of America Centennial Anniversary”.  There shall be a fee of not less than $40.00 for such plate in addition to the established registration fee for private passenger motor vehicles, such fee being payable at the time of registration of such vehicle and at each renewal thereof. The portion of the total fee remaining after the deduction of costs directly attributable to the issuance of such plates shall be deposited in a boy scout council serving the city or town in which the plate is registered.

SECTION 2.  Section 2H of said chapter 90, inserted by section 1 of this act, is hereby repealed. 

SECTION 3.  Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the registrar of motor vehicles shall make available the distinctive registration plates provided for in this act not later than September 1, 2013.

SECTION   4.  Section 2  shall take effect on  December 31, 2013.
