An Act discounting vehicle registration fees for light vehicles.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Chapter 90 of the General Laws of Massachusetts is amended by inserting after Section 33 the following Section 33A:
For model year 2012 and later model year vehicles which are not wholly exempt from registration fees under Section 33 and which are not currently subject to a registration fee based on weight, the registration fee imposed under Section 33 shall be adjusted by the registration adjustment amount defined as follows. The registration adjustment amount shall be one dollar multiplied by a fraction, the numerator of which is the manufacturer reported curb weight less three thousand pounds and the denominator of which is ten. In the case of hybrid or electric vehicles the curb weight shall be reduced by five hundred pounds before computing the registration adjustment amount. In no event shall the registration adjustment amount operate to decrease the registration fee by more than twenty dollars or increase it by more than two hundred dollars. The registration adjustment amount shall be rounded to the nearest whole dollar.
