An Act relative to the inspection of the maritime safety and environmental protection of the Long Island Bridge.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 22C of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the following section:-

71. (a) The department of state police shall perform quarterly routine and special member inspections of the maritime and environmental safety of the Long Island Bridge within the City of Boston, connecting Moon Island and Long Island.  The department shall seek assistance from the United States Coast Guard to inspect the bridge.

(b) If the department determines that any critical structural elements of the bridge pose a serious maritime or environmental hazard, the City of Boston shall, within 90 days, establish and implement a means of access to Long Island using a water shuttle or barge; provided, however, that the department shall rely on any opinions, findings, or determinations made by the United States Coast Guard.
