To the Honorable Senate and House of Representatives,
Pursuant to the provisions of Article II, Section 8, Paragraph 1, Clause (2) of the Amendments to the Constitution, as amended by Article LXXXIX, I am filing for your consideration the attached legislation entitled, “An Act Validating The Date Of Incorporation Of The Town of Oxford.”
The Oxford Board of Selectmen, with support of the sponsor, Senator Richard Moore have requested that I file this special legislation on behalf of the Town to officially recognize July 8, 1713 as the Town’s legal date of incorporation. The Town is planning an event for July to commemorate the Town’s 300th Anniversary. The next town meeting will occur in September or October. This legislation ensures that the Town’s legal date of incorporation is validated prior to the July festivities.
The Oxford Board of Selectmen, Town Manager, Historical Commission, and Tercentennial Committee all support the filing of this legislation.
I urge your early and favorable consideration of this bill.
Respectfully submitted
Deval L. Patrick,
Governor
