An Act relative to the sterilization of musical instruments in schools.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
ECTION 1. Chapter 71 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 55C 1 the following section:- 2
Section 55D. (a) Upon the issuance of a musical wind instrument to a borrowing student 3 attending grades pre-kindergarten to 12, in any public or Commonwealth charter school, the 4 issuing school shall inform the parent or guardian of the student that, while the musical wind 5 instrument was sanitized, it may also be sterilized in order to ensure that all microbial life has 6 been eradicated within the instrument. The parent or guardian may request that the school 7 sterilize the instrument prior to issuance in compliance with regulations promulgated by the 8 department of public health. The parent or guardian who makes the request shall be responsible 9 for the entire cost of the sterilization. 10
(b) This section shall take effect in any school district or Commonwealth charter school upon 11 acceptance by the school committee or Commonwealth charter school board of trustees.
