An Act making an appropriation for the fiscal year 2014 to provide for supplementing a certain existing appropriation and for certain other activities and projects.
Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to strengthen forthwith the laws relative to line of duty benefits in the commonwealth, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. To provide for supplementing a certain item in the general appropriation act and other appropriation acts for fiscal year 2014, the sum set forth in section 2 is hereby appropriated from the General Fund unless specifically designated otherwise in this act or in those appropriation acts, for the several purposes and subject to the conditions specified in this act or in those appropriation acts and subject to the laws regulating the disbursement of public funds for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014. The sum shall be in addition to any amounts previously appropriated and made available for the purposes of this item.

SECTION 3. Section 100A of chapter 32 of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 8, 21, 31 and in line 32, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, the figure “$100,000”and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following figure:- $150,000.
SECTION 4. Sections 3 shall take effect as of March 24, 2014.
SECTION 5. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the provisions of section 100A of chapter 32 of the General Laws, as amended by sections 3 and 4 of this act, shall not apply to applications received by the State Board of Retirement prior to March 24, 2014.
