An Act increasing the number of selectmen in the town of Sherborn.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Sherborn shall consist of five members elected by the voters for three year terms, so arranged that the term of office of at least one member, but not more than two members, shall expire each year. The Board of Selectmen shall annually elect a chairperson from among its members. Members of the Board of Selectmen in office on the effective date of this Act shall serve until the terms for which they have been elected have expired.

SECTION 2.This Act shall be submitted to the voters of the Town at the next annual town meeting or at a special town meeting preceding the Town’s annual town meeting that is called for the purpose of voting on the Town’s acceptance of this Act. The form of the question that shall be placed on the official Warrant to be used at that Town Meeting shall be as follows:

"Shall an Act passed by the General Court entitled 'An Act increasing the number of Selectmen in the Town of Sherborn from three to five members' be accepted?"

This Act shall become effective if accepted by majority vote of the persons present and voting at that Town Meeting. At the first annual Town election which occurs at least sixty days after the acceptance of this Act, the Town shall elect on its official ballot two additional members of the Board of Selectmen, one for a term of two years, and one for a term of one year, and provided that their successors shall be elected for a term of three years.”
