An Act relative to the establishment of mandatory school safety procedures.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 71 of the General Laws, as most recently amended by chapter 222 of the Acts of 2012, is hereby amended by inserting, after section 37O, the following new section:-

37P. The superintendent of every school district, in collaboration with the school committee of the school district, shall research and implement a policy pertaining to the safety protocols and procedures of each school within the district. In addition to current safety protocols and procedures, the policies established under this section shall require that each school conduct other emergency or disaster drills, including lockdown drills. Once established, the policy shall be published and practiced by the teachers and the students of each school within each school district no fewer than once per school year. The provisions of this section shall not be construed to void any other existing safety protocols in use by school districts.
