An Act relative to education funding for charter schools.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Subsection (nn) of section 89 of chapter 71 of the General Laws, as most recently amended by section 7 of chapter 12 of the Acts of 2010, is hereby further amended by inserting, after the word “school” in the last sentence of the fourth paragraph, the following:-

; provided, however, that if an elementary-aged student attending a charter school resides in a community of not more than 5,000 inhabitants and which maintains its own elementary school district but is a member of a regional school district for middle and high school education, the community in which that elementary-aged student resides shall pay to the charter school in question an amount equal to the tuition amount calculated for that community’s elementary school district, or the tuition amount calculated for the regional school district to which that community belongs, whichever is less.
