An Act authorizing the town of Wakefield to designate a check-off box on its tax bills for the Wakefield Veterans Relief Fund.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  The town of Wakefield may, subject to the approval of the commissioner of revenue, designate a place  on its municipal tax bills, or  motor vehicle excise tax bills, or mail with such tax bills a separate form whereby taxpayers of the town  may voluntarily check off, donate and pledge an amount of money, which shall increase the amount  otherwise due, and which shall be paid over to a fund established by the town of Wakefield and known as the Wakefield Veterans Relief Fund; provided, that monies so donated and pledged shall be used for the support of Wakefield veterans and their dependents in need of immediate assistance, including, but not limited to,  commercial food cards and heating and oil assistance; and provided further, that the,   veteran’s services department of the town of Wakefield shall determine the veteran status and level of need of each potential recipient  of monies so donated and pledged.  Section SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
