An Act authorizing sheriffs’ departments to engage in truancy programs.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. MGL Chapter 37, Section 13 is amended by inserting at the end of Section 13, adding the following New Section: “Section 13A. At the request of the Superintendent of Schools of a city or town, with the approval of such request by the School Committee thereof, a Sheriff may engage employees of his department, if he elects to do so, in programs dealing with truancy including, but not necessarily limited to, the apprehension of truant students and the transporting of them in Sheriff’s Department vehicles to locations designated by the Superintendent.”
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on passage
