An Act relative to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to strengthen the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 1E of chapter 15 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 12 to 16, inclusive, the words “and 6 additional members. No appointive member of said board shall be employed by or receive regular compensation from the department of education, or from any school system, public or independent, in the commonwealth, or serve as a member of any school committee.” and inserting in place thereof the following:-
1 current teacher selected by the governor from a list of 4 nominees offered jointly by the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the American Federation of Teachers of Massachusetts; and 5 additional members. No appointive member of the board, except the current teacher, shall be employed by or receive regular compensation from the department of elementary and secondary education, or from any public or independent school or school district in the commonwealth, or serve as a member of any school committee.
SECTION 2. Said section 1E of said chapter 15, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by inserting after the word “education”, in line 37, the following:-
or a public school district
