An Act relative to party representation of election officers.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

“SECTION 1.  Section 11 of chapter 54 of the General Laws, as so appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, line 7, the word “enrolled” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- registered.

SECTION 2.  Section 11 of said chapter 54 is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 9 and 10, the words “except as otherwise provided in section 11B”.

SECTION 3.  Section 11 of said chapter 54 is hereby further amended by striking out the second sentence.

SECTION 4.  Section 11B of said chapter 54 is hereby amended by inserting after the second sentence the following sentence:- The mayor or other appointing authority may, not later than June first in each year, file with the registrars a list of unenrolled registered voters who desire appointment as election officers as submitted to him by the city clerk or election commission.

SECTION 5.  Section 11B of said chapter 54 is hereby further amended by inserting after the words “committees,” in line 14, the following words:- city clerk, or election commission.

SECTION 6.  Section 11B of said chapter 54 is hereby further amended by inserting after the fifth sentence, the following sentence:- Supplement lists for any election district as submitted by the city clerk or election commission may be filed by the mayor or other appointing authority at any time before the appointments for such district are made, for the purpose of filling vacancies which may occur in the original lists.

SECTION 7.  Section 12 of said chapter 54 is hereby amended by striking out, in line 5, the word “enrolled” and inserting in place thereof the following work:- registered.

SECTION 8.  Section 12 of said chapter 54 is hereby further amended by inserting after the second sentence in the second paragraph, the following sentence:- “The selectmen may, not later than June first in each year, file with the registrars a list of unenrolled, registered voters who desire appointment as election officers as submitted to him by the town clerk.

SECTION 9.  Section 12 of said chapter 54 is hereby further amended by inserting after the word “committees,” in line 23, the following words:- and selectmen.
