An Act increasing ballot access by reducing the number of nomination petition signatures.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. (a) Section 6 of chapter 53 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in line 5, the word "ten" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- "five".

(b) Said section 6, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 6 and 7, the words "five thousand" and inserting in place thereof the following words:- "two thousand five hundred".

(c) Said section 6, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 7, the word "two" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- "one".

(d) Said section 6, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 8, the words "three hundred" and inserting in place thereof the following words:- "one hundred and fifty".

(e) Said section 6, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 8, the words "one hundred and fifty" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- "seventy-five".

(f) Said section 6, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 10 and 11, the words "one thousand" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- "five hundred".

(g) Said section 6, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 13, the words "five hundred" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- "two hundred and fifty".

SECTION 2. (a) Section 44 of chapter 53 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in line 4, the word "ten" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- "five".

(b) Said section 44, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 6, the words "five thousand" and inserting in place thereof the following words:- "two thousand five hundred".

(c) Said section 44, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 8, the word "two" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- "one".

(d) Said section 44, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 10 and 11, the words "one thousand" and inserting in place thereof the following words:- "five hundred".

(e) Said section 44, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 14, the words "five hundred" and inserting in place thereof the following words:- "two hundred and fifty".

(f) Said section 44, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 15, the words "three hundred" and inserting in place thereof the following words:- "one hundred and fifty".

(g) Said section 44, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 16, the words "one hundred and fifty" and inserting in place thereof the following words:- "seventy-five".
