An Act relative to the minority status of Arab Americans.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 58 of chapter 7 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in line 13, the words “and Aleuts” and inserting in the place thereof the following words:- Aleuts and American Arabs.
SECTION 2. Subsection (b) of section 6 of chapter 7C of the General Laws, added by section 82 of chapter 165 of the acts of 2012, is hereby amended by striking out the definition of “Minority” and inserting in place thereof the following definition:- “Minority”, a person with a permanent residence in the United States who is American Indian, Black, Cape Verdean, Western Hemisphere Hispanic, Aleut, Eskimo, Asian or American Arab.
SECTION 3. For purposes of section 1 of this act, the supplier diversity office shall promulgate regulations to define “American Arab” to mean “all persons having origins in any of the Arabic speaking peoples of Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.”
SECTION 4. For purposes of section 2 of this act, the commissioner of capital asset management and maintenance, in collaboration with the supplier diversity officer, shall promulgate regulations to define “American Arab” to mean “all persons having origins in any of the Arabic speaking peoples of Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.”
