Medical Device Tax Study
Mr. Tarr moved that the bill be amended by inserting after Section__ the following new Section:-
SECTION _. The executive office of housing and economic development, in consultation with the department of revenue and manufacturers of medical devices in the commonwealth, shall conduct a study and evaluation of the impacts on such manufactures and the economy of the commonwealth of the tax on the sale of medical devices imposed pursuant to the federal affordable care act. The evaluation shall include an analysis of the economic impact of the tax, including but not limited to, its impact on jobs, employment, innovation, research, competitiveness, and on a patient’s ability to receive medical devices and the cost at which patients obtain said devices. The report shall be published online on the department’s website and sent to the clerks of the house and senate and the joint committee on economic development and emerging technologies not later than June 30, 2014.
