Amendment #43 to H.3700

Resolution Calling on Congress to Propose an Acceptable Federal Budget and to End the Federal Government Shutdown

Ms. Andrews of Orange move that the bill be amended by adding the following section:-



SECTION XX.



WHEREAS, FEDERAL BUDGET DECISIONS WILL AFFECT THE STABILITY OF OUR ECONOMIC RECOVERY AND PUBLIC GOOD FOR YEARS TO COME; AND



WHEREAS, BUDGET DECISIONS MADE IN WASHINGTON HAVE A PROFOUND EFFECT ON THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMONWEALTH, OUR BUSINESSES, OUR FAMILIES, AND OUR ECONOMY; AND



WHEREAS, THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES HAS FAILED TO ACT TO PROPOSE A BUDGET THAT IS ACCEPTABLE TO THE NEEDS AND DESIRES OF ITS CITIZENS; AND



WHEREAS, THE PUBLIC HAS INCREASINGLY LOST CONFIDENCE AND SUPPORT FOR THEIR ELECTED LEADERS AND GOVERNMENT AND HAVE URGED THEIR ELECTED STATE OFFICIALS TO ADDRESS CONGRESS ON THEIR BEHALF;



RESOLVED, THAT THE MASSACHUSETTS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HEREBY CALLS UPON CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT TO:



1. PREVENT THE DRASTIC HARM TO OUR FAMILIES AND ECONOMY, BY CALLING BACK TO WORK ALL FEDERAL EMPLOYEES WITH FULL PAY; AND



2. PREVENT CUTS TO HOUSING, EARLY EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE, FOOD, UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE, AND ASSISTANCE TO VETERANS; AND



3. PROTECT PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS AND THE FAMILIES OF THESE NON-FEDERAL WORKERS BY ENSURING THE FULL FAITH OF CONTACTS ALREADY IN PLACE; AND



4. STEM THE RIPPLE EFFECT THAT THE OF FURLOUGH OF FEDERAL EMPLOYEES HAS HAD THE REVENUES AND STABILITY OF SMALL BUSINESSES, RESTAURANTS, AND INDUSTRIES THROUGHOUT THE ECONOMY; AND



5. RE-OPEN ALL NATIONAL PARKS AND HISTORIC MONUMENTS IN ORDER TO STEM THE EFFECT THESE CLOSURES ARE HAVING UPON OUR ECONOMY AND THE ENJOYMENT OF THESE NATIONAL TREASURES BY RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO OUR COUNTRY.



RESOLVED, THAT A COPY OF THESE RESOLUTION BE TRANSMITTED FORTHWITH BY THE CLERK OF THE HOUSE TO THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS.
