SECTION 1. Section 64 of Chapter 143 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amending by inserting, in line 6, after the word “years” the following:-
provided, however, that wheelchair lifts, dumbwaiters, vertical reciprocating conveyors, and limited-use/limited-application elevators shall be inspected at intervals of not less than two years;.
SECTION 2. Section 71E of Chapter 143 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 4, after the words “car lifts” the following:-
, limited-use/limited-application elevators,.
SECTION 3. Section 71E of Chapter 143 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, after the first paragraph, the following:-
A limited-use/limited-application elevator shall be defined as a power passenger elevator with a weight capacity that does not exceed 1,400 lbs; has a travel distance that does not exceed twenty-five feet; and is not integrated with a fire detection system.
