An Act further regulating group insurance benefits for state employees and retired state employees.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 5 of chapter 32A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out in lines 1, 2, 24 and 25, the word “five”, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the word:- ten.
SECTION 2. Section 6 of said chapter 32A, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The amount of group life insurance on each employee shall be ten thousand dollars, and the amount of group accidental death and dismemberment insurance on each employee shall be ten thousand dollars, except that those employees desiring to elect optional coverage in excess of ten thousand dollars group life insurance and ten thousand dollars group accidental death and dismemberment insurance may do so as provided in section ten A.
SECTION 3. The first paragraph of section 10 of said chapter 32A, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The commission shall require that, upon retirement of an employee, the policy or policies of insurance as set forth in section six, except the optional group life insurance referred to therein, shall provide that the ten thousand dollars of group life insurance, the ten thousand dollars of group accidental death and dismemberment insurance and the group general or blanket insurance providing hospital, surgical, medical, dental and other health insurance, as provided under sections five and ten C, as may be applicable, shall be continued, provided said retiree makes application to the commission on a form prescribed by the rules and regulations of the commission.
