An Act to reestablish the former DEQE/DEP water meter modernization grant program..
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or specific law or regulation to the contrary, the Department of Environmental Protection is directed to re-establish and administer a Water Meter Modernization Program. The Commonwealth shall allocate up to $25 million annually to municipalities of the Commonwealth for the purchase and/or installation of water meters. Criteria for the program will be established by the DEP no later than 90 days upon enactment of this legislation.
