An Act relative to motor vehicle registrations.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 3 of chapter 90 of General Laws, as appearing in 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:-
“A non-resident who has become a resident of the commonwealth and operates a motor vehicle or trailer, shall, within 90 days, register said vehicle or trailer in the commonwealth according to this chapter. A vehicle or trailer not registered accordingly shall not be operated on the ways of the commonwealth. Whoever operates, or allows to be operated, a motor vehicle or trailer in violation of this paragraph shall be punished by a fine of not less than $100. Half of all revenue generated in conjunction with stated violation shall be retained by the municipality in which the violation occurs.”
SECTION 2. Said chapter 90 of the General laws, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by inserting after section 9D the following section:-
Section 9E. A motor vehicle or trailer that has been in operation for more than 90 days in the aggregate in any 1 year, and whose owner qualifies as a resident under section 3 1/2 , shall be registered according to this chapter. Whoever operates, or allows to be operated, a motor vehicle or trailer in violation of this section shall be punished by a fine of not more than $100. Half of all revenue generated in conjunction with stated violation shall be retained by the municipality in which violation occurs.
