SECTION 1. Chapter 6, of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after Section15RRRRR, the following new section,
Section 15SSSSS. The governor shall annually issue a proclamation setting apart June 14 as United States Army Birthday Day in recognition of the designation by the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia to “adopt” the New England Militias around Boston on June 14, 1775 and the Congress further resolved to form a committee “to bring in a draft of rules and regulations for the government of the Army; and in honor of those who have served, or currently serve in the United States Army, Army Reserve, and Massachusetts Army National Guard, and recommending that the day be observed in an appropriate manner by the people.
SECTION 2. Said Chapter 6 is hereby further amended by inserting after Section 15SSSSS, a new section:
Section 15TTTTT. The governor shall annually issue a proclamation setting apart June 9 as General Sylvanus Thayer Day in recognition of the birth in Braintree, Massachusetts on June 9, 1785 Colonel and Brevet Brigadier General Sylvanus Thayer also known as "the Father of West Point" and who was an early superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point and was also an early advocate of engineering education in the United States, and recommending that the day be observed in an appropriate manner by the people.
