SECTION 1. Whereas, Secretary of the Treasury, Albert Gallatin, in 1909, declared the Middlesex canal “the greatest work of its kind in the United States to date”; and
Whereas, the complete length of the Old Middlesex Canal was listed as a National Register Archaeological and Historic District as of November 17, 2009; now
Therefore, be it enacted, that for the purposes of the restoration, to its original conditions, of the Middlesex Canal National Register Heritage District, for public access, recreation and education, that within the former footprint, without any extension beyond such boundaries, the former properties and structures of the original Canal Company, which have been or become available to the Middlesex Canal Commission, are hereby exempted from the provisions of the Wetlands Protection Act, Chapter 131, (40) and the Waterfront Protection Act, Chapter 91, and without having to file a Notice of Intent to the local community in which such restoration occurs.
