In the Year Two Thousand Fourteen

An Act increasing the membership of the board of trustees and increasing quorum for the transaction of the corporate business of Amherst College.
Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to permit forthwith an increase in the number of members of Trustees of Amherst College from a maximum of 21 to a maximum of 25, therefore, it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 2 of chapter 84 of the acts of 1824 is hereby amended by striking out, in line 25, the words “nine, at least,” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- “a majority”.
SECTION 2. Section 1 of chapter 433 of the acts of 1972 is hereby amended by striking out the word “twenty-one”, inserted by chapter 158 of the acts of 1991, and inserting in place thereof the figure:- 25.
