In the Year Two Thousand Thirteen

An Act clarifying restrictions on campaign expenditures.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 6 of chapter 55 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 48, after the word “candidate” the following:-

“or make expenditures designed to promote or oppose the election of any particular candidate.”

SECTION 2.  Section 6 of chapter 55 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by inserting, in line 71, after the words “one thousand dollars” the following:-

“or three times the amount improperly expended by said committee, whichever is greater.”

SECTION 3.  Section 6A of chapter 55 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 2, after the word “contribution” the following:-

“, in-kind donation or expenditure designed to promote or oppose the election of a particular candidate.”

SECTION 4.  Section 6A of said chapter 55 is hereby further amended by inserting, in line 2, after the words, “political action committee” the following:-

“or any local town or ward committee.”
