Section 55 of chapter 119 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the third paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-
A summons required by this and said section 54, unless service thereof is waived in writing, shall be served by a constable or police officer, by delivering it personally to at least 1 of the child’s parents, if either of them is known to reside within the commonwealth, and, if there is no such parent, then to the child’s lawful guardian, if there is 1 known to be so resident, and if not, then to the person with whom such child resides, if known, until the child reaches the age of majority, or by leaving it with a person aged 18 or older to receive the same, at the place of residence or business of such person; and said constable or officer shall immediately make return to the court of the time and manner of the service.
