An Act relative to the penalty for resisting a police officer.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Chapter 265 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 13L the following new section:

Section 13M. Any person who shall knowingly and willfully obstruct, resist, interfere with, or oppose any police officer, firefighter, correction officer, or other officer in serving any process, rule or order issued by a lawful authority; or who knowingly and willfully shall obstruct, resist, interfere with, or oppose any such officer in the lawful performance of his duties may be punished by imprisonment in a jail or house of correction for not more than one year or by a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $250, or both. Any person suspected of violating this section may be arrested by a police officer without a warrant.
