An Act providing health care coverage for mandibular advancement splints.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Chapter 118E of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting the following:
Section XX.
(a) Definitions. As used in the section:
(i) “Mandibular advancement splint” shall mean any device worn in the mouth that is used to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring. These devices are also known as “mandibular advancement devices”, “sleep apnea oral appliances”, and “sleep apnea mouth guards.”
(ii) “Related services” shall mean those services necessary to assess, select, and appropriately adjust or fit the mandibular advancement splint to ensure optimal performance.
(b) A health benefit plan shall provide full coverage, subject to all applicable co-payments, coinsurance, deductibles, and out-of-pocket limits, for the first $2,000 and 80 percent coverage of the next $2,000 in the cost of one mandibular advancement splint, and coverage for all related services which shall be prescribed by a dental or medical professional.
