In the One Hundred and Eighty-Ninth General Court
(2015-2016)
_______________
An Act to expand UMMS class size and allow up to 25 non-Massachusetts residents.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the trustees of the University of Massachusetts may expand the entering class at its medical school to allow admission of up to twenty-five students per-class who do not satisfy the Massachusetts residency requirements of Section 88 of Chapter 164 of the Acts 1988, provided however that such expansion shall not reduce the number of slots available for applicants satisfying said Massachusetts residency requirements. The trustees shall develop a master plan for class size expansion and enrollment of these students, together with a financial plan to support such expansion, and shall report that plan to the clerk of the house of representatives who shall forward the same to the joint committee on health care financing and the house and senate committees on ways and means on or before January 1, 2015. The trustees shall determine tuition and fees for non-Massachusetts residents separately from tuition and fees for Massachusetts residents. Tuition and fees of non-Massachusetts residents shall appropriately balance the financial needs of the medical school with the need to be competitive with peer institutions.
