An Act promoting community service by the long-term unemployed through a civilian conservation corps.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 24 of chapter 151A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting at the end thereof the following paragraphs:-

(d) Any person who has received unemployment insurance benefits for more than 180 consecutive days in any 365 day period shall be required to perform 6 hours weekly of public community service under the supervision of the executive office of environmental affairs as part of a civilian conservation corps, as a condition of receiving continued unemployment insurance benefits. 

(e) Any person who has received unemployment insurance benefits for more than 365 days in any 730 day period shall be required to perform 12 hours weekly of public community service under the same conditions detailed in section (d) above.

For purposes of administering sections (d) and (e), the secretary of the executive office of environmental affairs may enter into agreements with any other state or municipal agency for the deployment, management and supervision of the community service volunteers.
