An Act relative to uniform use of deadly force guidelines.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. The police commissioner of every municipal police force established pursuant to section 97 of chapter 41 of the general laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, shall publish the department’s policies or guidelines pertaining to the use of deadly force by members of that police force. The superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police shall publish the Massachusetts State Police Departments’ policies or guidelines pertaining to the use of deadly force by members of the Massachusetts State Police.
The publication of any policies or guidelines in accordance with this Act shall take place not later than 90 days after this Act takes effect.
SECTION 2. The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security shall develop and promulgate regulations in relation to the use of deadly force policies or guidelines used by any municipal or state police force in the Commonwealth.
