An Act relative to the updating of fire safety laws in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 81 of Chapter 146 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking lines 13 through 19 and inserting in place thereof the following:-

“Fire protection sprinkler system” an automatic or manual system used for fire protection purposes, and designed to protect occupants and structures from fire. The fire protection sprinkler system includes sprinkler piping, risers, overhead and underground water mains, fire hydrants and hydrant mains, standpipes and hose connections to sprinkler systems, sprinkler tank heaters, air lines and thermal systems, hot water fire protection systems and standpipes connected to sprinkler systems and pumps dedicated for fire suppression.”

SECTION 2. Said section 81 of said chapter 146, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by inserting after the word “modification”, in line 22, the following word:- service. 

SECTION 3. Said section 81 of said chapter 146, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by inserting after the word “inspection” in line 23, the following word:-testing.

SECTION 4. Said section 81 of said chapter 146, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 62, the word “who” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- employed by a licensed fire sprinkler contractor who. 

SECTION 5. Said section 81 of said chapter 146, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by adding the following section:-

"Work on a fire sprinkler system" the onsite layout, on-site fabrication, work and practice concerning the construction, installation, alteration, or extension of fire suppression systems, modification, repair, and initial acceptance testing and inspection, testing, maintenance and service of a fire suppressions system.
