An Act to track pawned items.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 140 of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the following section:-
Section 71A. Articles deposited in pawn with a licensed pawnbroker or second hand dealer that exceed market value shall be photographed and cataloged with a brief description of the item including any identifying characteristics. The office of the attorney general shall collect and maintain such information in an electronic database which shall be made available to law enforcement agencies for the purpose of identifying and recovering stolen property. The office of the attorney general shall promulgate rules and regulations to implement this section.
