Whereas, Massachusetts supports the motto of the United States of America, E Pluribus Unum;
Whereas, the greatest asset of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is its people;
Whereas, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is comprised of multicultural, multiethnic and multiracial citizens;
Whereas, friendship, collegiality, civility, respect, and kindness are commonly shared ideals of the collective citizenry of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts;
Whereas, the Towards E Pluribus Unum Initiative has invited communities across the United States of America to join in introspection and reflection on the beauty and richness of the diverse peoples of this great nation while reaching out with a spirit of amity toward one another annually on the second Sunday in June;
Therefore, be it resolved by the members of the Great and General Court of Massachusetts in Session assembled, That The Great and General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts –
(1) Proclaims the 2nd Sunday in June annually be designated as Massachusetts Race Amity Day
(2) Supports the goals and ideals of Race Amity Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
(3) Encourages all citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to join in activities in support of the goals and ideals of Race Amity Day
(4) Authorizes and issues this Resolution calling on the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to observe Massachusetts Race Amity Day with appropriate programs and activities.
