An Act relative to the timeframe for MCAD investigations.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Section 1. Section 3 of Chapter 151B of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after the words "handicapped person", in subsection 6, the following 3 new sentences:- "The investigation of a complaint alleging discrimination in housing shall be completed in no more than 100 days after receipt of the complaint, unless it is impracticable to do so.  In all other matters before the Commission, the investigation of a complaint shall be completed in no more than 12 months following receipt of the complaint.  If the Commission is unable to complete the investigation within these time periods, it shall notify the Complainant and Respondent of the reasons therefor and offer an expanded time period, not to exceed 6 more months."

Section 2. This Act shall take effect upon passage
