An Act to promote long-term renewable contracts for municipal aggregators and municipalities.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 169 of the Acts of 2008, as amended by chapter 209 of the acts of 2012, is hereby further amended by inserting after section 83B the following section:

Section 83C: Beginning on or before June 30, 2016 all local governments, towns, counties and municipal aggregators within the Commonwealth shall be allowed to enter into long-term, power purchase contracts, up to 20 years, with renewable energy projects of the community’s choice, on behalf of all residents of the community “Community Empowerment”. Business and municipalities are not required to participate but could be given the option to opt-in or opt-out.
