An Act relative to school zones.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 2 of chapter 85 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:- No city or town shall, by rule, regulation, order, ordinance or by-law, establish a school zone that extends less than 500 feet beyond the real property comprising the school to which the zone relates.
SECTION 2. Section 17 of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting after the second sentence the following sentence:- Any person operating a motor vehicle through the parameters of a school zone established as provided in said section 2 of said chapter 85 at a speed which exceeds the posted limit shall be subject to a fine of 2 times the amount currently in effect for the violation issued.
