An Act relative to veteran registration plates.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1 . Section 2 of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 220 and 221, the words “and the words ‘Disabled Veteran’” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- the words “Disabled Veteran” and, upon the request of a female veteran, the words “She Served with Pride”.

SECTION  2. The fifteenth paragraph of said section 2 of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out the second sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- These plates shall also include: (i) a distinctive emblem or decal for those individuals who have been awarded the Iraqi Freedom Campaign Ribbon or who served in Operation Enduring Freedom; and (ii) upon the request of a female veteran, the words “SHE SERVED WITH PRIDE”.  

SECTION 3 . Said section 2 of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “served”, in line 432, the following words:- , the owner as a female veteran.

SECTION 4.  Said section 2 of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by inserting after the eighteenth paragraph the following paragraph:-

The registrar shall furnish, at the request of an owner of a pleasure passenger vehicle or a pick-up truck who has been issued a plate displaying the words “Disabled Veteran” pursuant to this section, a distinctive emblem to be affixed to such plates which identifies the owner as a female veteran. The registrar may charge a fee directly attributable to the cost of issuance of such emblem. The surviving spouse of a deceased owner may elect to retain the distinctive emblem for personal use upon payment of the established registration fee and an additional $20 fee until such time as the spouse remarries or fails to renew or cancels the registration.
