An Act relative to bridge maintenance transparency and accountability.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Section 1: Chapter 84 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 2 the following section:-

Section 2A. Bridge Maintenance Transparency and Accountability

(a)When a bridge is painted or repainted the color used to paint said bridge will indicate the year the work was completed.  The year the work is completed will also be painted on said bridge in numbers no smaller than 7 inches.  The year shall be painted on the sides of the bridge, the top of the bridge and under the bridge.

In years that end in “0”, black paint shall be used for the bridge and white paint for the year.  In years that end in “1”, brown paint shall be used for the bridge and white paint for the year.  In years that end in “2”, red paint shall be used for the bridge and black paint for the year. In years that end in “3”, orange paint shall be used for the bridge and black paint for the year. In years that end in “4”, yellow paint shall be used for the bridge and black paint for the year. In years that end in “5”, green paint shall be used for the bridge and black paint for the year. In years that end in “6”, blue paint shall be used for the bridge and white paint for the year.  In years that end in “7”, violet paint shall be used for the bridge and white paint for the year. In years that end in “8”, gray paint shall be used for the bridge and black paint for the year. In years that end in “9”, white paint shall be used for the bridge and black paint for the year.

(b)The following bridges will be exempt from part “a” of this section:

(1)Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, Boston

(2)Longfellow Bridge, Boston and Cambridge

(c)The Governor at his discretion may approve additional exemptions from part “a” of this section.
