In the One Hundred and Eighty-Ninth General Court
(2015-2016)

An Act protecting bicyclists in bicycle lanes.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

              SECTION 1: Chapter 89 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting the following as Section 4D:

              The operator of a motor vehicle shall not stand or park the vehicle upon any on-street path or lane designated by official signs or markings for the use of bicycles, or place the vehicle in such a manner as to interfere with the safety and passage of persons operating bicycles thereon.

              The operator of a motor vehicle shall not stand or park the vehicle upon any lane designated by pavement markings for the shared use of motor vehicles and bicycles, or place the vehicle in such a manner as to interfere with the safety and passage of persons operating bicycles thereon.

              SECTION 2: Section 5 of Chapter 89 of the General Laws is hereby amended by replacing both references to “sections one to four C” with “sections one to four D.
