An Act relative to the requirements for distinctive registration plates.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Paragraph (a) of section 2F of chapter ninety of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out the number “1,500” in the second sentence; in the third sentence; and in the fourth sentence and inserting in each place thereof the number: - 750.

SECTION 2. Paragraph (b) of section 2F of chapter ninety of the General Laws, is further amended by striking out the number "2" in the first and second sentences and inserting in each place thereof the number: - 5.

SECTION 3. "The Registrar of Motor Vehicles  shall produce an impact report no later than one year after the implementation of this act to describe and analyze the impact that implementation of this act has had on the following – overall fiscal impact to the registry of motor vehicles, the number of distinctive license plates issued in the commonwealth, software programming costs associated with the production of new distinctive license plates and any other cost impacts or savings directly or indirectly related to the implementation of this act.  The Registrar shall file said report with the chairs of the joint committee on transportation as well as the House and Senate chairs of the ways and means committee no later than January 15, 2017. 

SECTION 4.  The provisions of this act shall take effect 180 days following the passage of this bill.
