An Act relative to student driver safety.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 8B of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:-

               The registrar shall provide the holder of a learner’s permit with a highly visible, reflective decal indicating that the driver of the vehicle may be the holder of a learner’s permit. The registrar may charge a fee for the decal. The decal shall be displayed in a manner prescribed by the registrar, and shall be clearly visible to law enforcement officers. The holder of a learner’s permit shall not operate a vehicle unless the decal is so displayed. Any individual found operating a motor vehicle in violation of this paragraph shall be punished by a fine of not more than $50. The registrar is hereby authorized to promulgate regulations to assure the timely and effective implementation of this paragraph.
