An Act relative to regional school bus transportation.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Section 16C of chapter 71 of the General Laws, as amended by chapter 233 of the acts of 2014, is hereby further amended by adding the following paragraph:-
Notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, section 68 or any other general or special law to the contrary, or any agreement made between members of a regional school district pursuant to section 14B, any city or town that accepts the provisions of this paragraph may, in any fiscal year in which a regional school district to which the city or town is a member is not reimbursed by the commonwealth at a rate of 90 per cent or higher for the total cost of transportation in accordance with the preceding paragraph, establish a student transportation fee to offset the cost of transportation services in that city or town or, upon notification made to the commissioner of elementary and secondary education, eliminate school transportation services for all students.
