An Act directing the State-Saugus retirement board to retire John Coburn, a police officer of the town of Saugus.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the State-Saugus retirement board shall retire John Coburn, a police officer in the town of Saugus, who, as a result of injuries sustained while in the performance of his duties is totally and permanently incapacitated from further service as a police officer. John Coburn shall receive a yearly amount of pension equal to the regular rate of compensation which he would have been paid had he continued in service as a Saugus police sergeant at the grade held by him at the time of retirement. Such retirement status shall become effective as of the date following the last day on which he received regular compensation.

SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, Joseph L. Bryson, III, stepson of John Coburn, shall be considered the son of John Coburn for purposes of placement on all entry-level police officer eligible lists pursuant to section 26 of chapter 31 of the General Laws; provided, however, that Joseph L. Bryson, III passes the required written and physical examination for entrance to the police service.
