An Act relative to certain elections in the city of Newton.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 8-3 of the charter of the city of Newton, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth as provided by section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out subsection (a) and inserting in place thereof the following subsection:-
(a) Date – For each regular city election and any special election called to fill a vacancy in the office of mayor, there shall be held a preliminary election for the purpose of nominating candidates. The board of aldermen shall set the date for each preliminary election.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
