An Act relative to civics education.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 1D of chapter 69 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:-

Subject to appropriation, the competency determination shall include a requirement that a student correctly answer at least 60 out of the 100 questions listed on a test that is identical to the civics portion of the naturalization test used by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.  A school district shall document on a student’s transcript that the student has passed a test that is identical to the civics portion of the naturalization test used by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services as required by this section.

SECTION 2. The board of elementary and secondary education may issue rules and regulations as necessary to implement this act.
